Mother Amanda Nick was born October 3,1946 in Bennettsville, SC to the late Henry Nick, Sr. and Catherine McRae Nick. She peacefully transitioned at home on Sunday, October 11, 2020.
Amanda was a loving mother, who was blessed with four children, Sharon, Russell, Anthony, who preceded her in death, and Prentiss. She was also a wonderful and caring neighbor, affectionally known as “Robo and Sharon’s mother” and “Ms. Nick”. She was a great cook and excellent baker, where she was often called upon to make desserts for an occasion or ‘just because’ someone wanted a sweet treat! She liked to travel, often going on cruises and she LOVED the casino! Amanda was always smiling, often offering a kind word of encouragement to anyone she encountered. She greeted others with a welcoming spirit and a warm hug, which made you feel loved.
Amanda was educated by the Marlboro County Public School System. She was employed as a seamstress by Quilted Products, which she retired from after over 30 years of service. At an early age, her Christian fellowship began at the Cedar Fall Missionary Baptist Church in Bennettsville, SC. When she moved to Brooklyn, NY, her Christian journey continued at the St. Paul Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, under the late Bishop Johnson, the late Eld. Edward McCall and the current pastor, Eld. Aaron D. Owens, Sr. She attended Sunday School, and was a faithful member of both the William Johnson Choir and the Adult Usher Board. She was an avid supporter of the Sunday School scholarship program and community events that was sponsored by the church.
Amanda leaves to cherish her wonderful memories her devoted daughter Sharon, sons, Russell (Hazel) and Prentiss (Latrelle, Bowie, MD); her brother Henry Jr. (Betty, Columbia, SC); sisters Mae Catherine Roberts (Carsina) and Mildred Smith (Bennettsville, SC); her aunt Evangelist Louise Spratley (Chester, PA); grandchildren Ronald, Jr., Shaliyah, Shana, DyQuan (Daveria, Elmira, NY), Gwendolyn (Summerville, SC), Taniesha (Merthan), Sarayna (Bethlehem, PA), Damani Miguel, Chris and Nicole (Las Vegas, NV); great grandchildren Leilani “Binky”, DyQuan, Jr “DJ”, Kennedy, Hayden, Taj, Nala, twins Alaina and Alanah, and Joaquinn; nieces Carla, LaShon, Kimyatta and Cortney; nephews Deon and Carl; special friends Amye Moore, Marriah O’Banner, Burnett O’Banner, Eula Bishop and Linda Palmer and a host of relatives and friends.
