Annie Ruth German Obituary

Annie Ruth German was born on July 24th, 1941 to Mr. Marcellus Dowd and Mrs. Mary Dowd. She was one of fourteen children born in their union. As a child she was a studious individual. While her brothers and sisters had experiences such as picking peanuts and cotton, Annie was well known for her academic achievements. Upon her high school graduation, she was acknowledged as the valedictorian of North Carolina state.

As an adult Annie moved to Philadelphia and later settled in Brooklyn, New York with her two children; Brenda and Bradley. She worked as a seamstress, making suits for little boys and as an administrator at the Board of Education.

Affectionately known as Mother German, she was a faithful member of the United Community Baptist Church, where she served on the Sheppard’s ministry. On any given day you could hear her singing “One Day at A Time Sweet Jesus”.  Most of all she valued family. Annie had a deep love for her husband; Mr. Charles German, who preceded her in death. They were together for over forty years and decided to seal the deal with a holy matrimony on February 18th, 1994. Together, they sought out to build a family based on love and integrity. Their union set the example for many of their family members, neighbors, and friends.

In the community she was acknowledged as a confident mother, good neighbor, grandmother, and friend. When you left her presence you felt loved, empowered, and equipped to face any challenges that may come your way. She touched hearts and changed lives. Now she has left us with loving memories to treasure. We take on the responsibility to carry out her legacy. As far as being an example of a phenomenal woman, wife, and mother…MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!! We salute you Queen. Rest well.

Annie German had one granddaughter who proceeded her in death: Akira Johnson.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory a daughter: Brenda Johnson (Martin Currie). A son Bradley Johnson (Alma Johnson). Three granddaughters; Mrs. Charlisse Johnson – Murry (Anthony Murry), Ms. Jedisha Johnson and Ashaunte Currie. Two grandsons; Mr. Shakim Johnson and Mr. Tyriek Currie. A great – grand daughter, who will arrive soon: Akira Aaliyah Johnson. One brother: Herbert Dowd, one sister Mrs. Dorothy Howard and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
