Charlotte Drake Obituary

                                                Obituary for Charlotte M. Drake

Charlotte M. Drake was born on November 30,1928 in Morehead City, North Carolina. She was the 10th of twelve children born to the late Rev. Miles and Daisy Becton.  Her parents and siblings preceded her in death.

Charlotte graduated from Queen Street High School in Beaufort, N.C. Class of 1945.  She then attended a School for Cosmetology in Raleigh North Carolina for 2 years.  She relocated to New York City in 1949, where she met and married the love of her life, Henry E. Drake, in 1993. He also preceded her in death.

Charlotte was employed as a phone operator for over 30 years at The N.Y. Telephone Company, which was renamed Verizon by the time she retired in 1994.

She loved the Lord and lived her life for him. She joined The Pilgrim Church Family in 1987 under the leadership of the late Arch-Bishop Roy E. Brown. She enjoyed attending church services, reading/studying the Bible and fellowship with her church family. She was appointed to the mother’s Board, where she served diligently and remained active until she was overcome with illness. She was steadfast after the death of her leader and continued to love God, the Church, and her current leader Bishop De’Bora A. Crowe.

Charlotte was never at a loss for words. At the end of some conversations or situations, she would perform the sign of the cross, give you the countdown from 10 to 1, or tell you to “Be Cool!”. Sometimes you may get a combination or all the above.

On August 19, 2023, at 2:17am. Charlotte was called home to glory. She leaves a strong legacy of faith and love. She was blessed to witness the joy of four generations within her family. She leaves to cherish her memory: Curlie Becton, Charles Becton, Claudia Bell, Antionette Brown, Sabrina Becton, Madie Perry, George Perry, William Perry, Alfred Nibbs, Tony Perry, Tylena Becton, and many great/grand nieces, and nephews.  She also leaves two special friends Felix Reeder and Sharice Gethers, whom she lovingly called her godchildren.

The Family would like to thank the following individuals who cared for and supported Charlotte during her illness: Patricia James and her team, Patricia Gibbs, Michele Jackson, Claudette Boyce, Britney Edwin, Lynn Andrews, and her niece Dionne Martinez. May God continue to bless and strengthen each of them.
