Elizabeth ‘Sister” Lipford was born along with her twin brother, Joseph Lipford in Nathalie, VA on April 30, 1936 to Samuel Raymond Lipford and Gracie Coles Lipford. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Lewis, Joseph, Charlie and John Lipford, and one sister, Arlean Stone.
Elizabeth attended Halifax County Public Schools, and at an early age accepted Christ as a member of County Line Baptist Church in Vernon Hill, VA.
After graduation from high school, Elizabeth moved to New York where she spent the balance of her life working in a patient care environment and serving in church. For 34 years Elizabeth worked at the Brooklyn Developmental Center as a Mental Hygiene Aide for the mentally challenged. She was also a 15-year Volunteer at the Ruby Weston Nursing Home where she was recognized with several awards for her service and dedication. She was a Missionary at the Tabernacle of Prayer for 25 years and a faithful congregant at Glorious Temple for 10 years. Her dedication to Christ was evident in everything she did, and as already noted, if she wasn’t serving God, she was serving people of all walks of life.
On August 27, 1963 Elizabeth gave birth to her daughter Valerie Elizabeth Lipford, who was by her bedside as the Lord called her Home.
As a family member, Elizabeth was dedicated beyond description. Whether it was her granddaughter’s baptism and graduation, a family reunion, wedding or other family gathering, she was always there and willing to contribute her time. She was quiet, but consistent, and always someone you can count on.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Valerie Elizabeth Lipford, Brooklyn, NY, granddaughter Jihira Cherie Lipford, Columbus, GA, brothers Willie Lipford, Philadelphia, PA, Raleigh Lipford (Yvonne), Washington, DC, Ernest Lipford (Phyllis), Nathalie, VA, and sister Virginia Dixon (Henry), Columbus, GA, sisters-in-law Janie Luck and Clementris Lipford, a long list of nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
