Ernestine Long Solomon Obituary

Ernestine Louise Long-Solomon, born to Lillian and Samuel Long, a beloved mother, grandmother, wife, and devoted servant of Christ, peacefully entered into eternal rest with Jesus on January 15, 2026. She was 74 years old. A lifetime devoted to faith and service, Ernestine touched countless lives through her unwavering commitment to her Lord and her generous spirit. For decades, she served faithfully at Brooklyn Tabernacle and Christ Church International as a Sunday School teacher. She also participated on the Wednesday Prayer Team, and sat on the Stewardship Board. Her hands were always ready to serve—whether through the Healing Connection Crochet Club, where she and fellow church members created blankets to bring warmth and comfort to seniors in need, or through the countless quiet acts of kindness she performed for those around her. Ernestine’s faith was not confined to Sunday mornings. She pursued advanced religious education, earning a Bachelor of Theology from Lighthouse Christian College (2006) and a Master of Religious Education from the Community Bible Institute & Seminary at the University of America Divinity School (2011). Her academic achievements reflected her deep desire to grow in her understanding of scripture and her calling to serve others. Before dedicating herself more fully to ministry and family, Ernestine worked for the New York City Department of Finance (1974–1980) and the New York City Transit Authority, where she served as a Token Clerk (1980–1985) and later as an Interlocking Engineer (1985–2007). Through all her endeavors, she maintained the warmth, wit, and infectious generosity that defined her character. She is survived by her devoted husband, Thomas Solomon; her two daughters, Chrystal Dailey and Adrienne Baylor; two cherished grandchildren, McKenzie Nelson and Bria Baylor; and her beloved siblings, Eunice Powell, Elaine Mitchell, Nanette Banks, Andrea McCain, and Sybil Clyburn. She is also remembered fondly by her son-in-law, Kevin Baylor, and by all whose lives she graced with her presence. Those who were blessed to know Ernestine will remember her most not for the titles she carried, but for the love she poured into every role she lived. She had a gift for making people feel seen, valued, and loved. Her sense of humor, warm, witty, and delightfully sassy—could brighten even the darkest day. Her willingness to help anyone in need, without hesitation or complaint, was a testament to her faith lived out loud. She decorated with joy, crocheted with purpose, prayed with conviction, and loved with her whole heart. Ernestine Louise Long Solomon fought the good fight, finished her race, and has now been received into the loving arms of her Savior. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and love that will endure for generations to come. "Well done, good and faithful servant."
