Gary Martin Couch was born on June 10, 1953 in Brooklyn, NY and passed away on December 25, 2020. Gary was the second oldest of four sons bore by Adele and James Couch Sr. Gary and his brothers grew up in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn and shared many fun-filled days playing and hanging out with one another.
Gary made many friends while growing up in Cypress Hills including his oldest and dearest friend Ken Lewis, who now lives in Georgia. Even though they lived in different states, the two still kept in contact with each other over the years almost daily, especially during Gary’s recent illness.
During his teenage years, Gary spent a lot of time in Bedford Stuyvesant where his grandparents lived. He and his brothers were often sent to help their grandmother “Mamma” and their “Aunt Lence'' with chores around the house and also ran errands to the local store. He was also charged with looking out for their little cousin Stephanie, who was more like a little sister to them all when they were at Mamma’s house.
Gary attended Westinghouse High School. While it was no secret, he wasn’t a fan. Gary was very intelligent, funny, and outrageous. He was an avid reader, a great mechanic, music aficionado, and the “life of the party”. Gary read and studied any and everything that interested him. Loved to play music and had a sense of humor like no other.
Gary started working for The MTA in the early 80’s as a bus mechanic and retired in November 2015 as a Maintenance Supervisor.
Gary was blessed with his first child, Jameen with July Green-Hadley, and then later had 2 more children Cory and Triscelle with his ex-wife, Cheryl Couch.
Gary leaves to cherish his memories his 3 children, Jameen, Cory, and Triscelle who were all the apples of his eye; in their own special way. His brothers James Jr. and Jeffrey, his sister-in-law’s Cynthia and Brenda, his cousins Stephanie and Lee, his nieces Rahkiah, Jasmine, nephew Sherrod and a host of other family members who knew and loved Gary.
The family of Gary Couch wishes to acknowledge everyone that has sent their condolences and prayers. We sincerely appreciate all of your thoughtfulness. We also appreciate those who have attended, near and far to encourage us during this difficult time. God bless you all and please remember to keep yourselves and your families safe.
