James Jenkins Obituary

James Curtis Jenkins, known to his family and friends as ‘Jim’ was born July 18, 1945 to Lucretia Matilda Jenkins in New Rochelle, New York. He departed his earthly home to enter his heavenly rest on November 4, 2020.

Jim grew up in New Rochelle, New York and attended New Rochelle High School. He went on to complete two years at the College of New Rochelle before voluntarily enlisting in the United States Air Force.  He served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict and after completing his tour of duty resided in Chicago, Illinois.  He later married and out of that union had two children, Adam and Nycolle.

Jim was an extremely devoted father, who reared his two children as a single parent.  Although times were challenging, he remained committed and would sacrifice anything to make life more enjoyable for them.  Not only was Jim a devoted father, he was also known for his impeccable work ethic, wisdom and generosity.

Jim was employed at Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield as a claim’s processor for over 20 years and often worked as a trainer to new hires. He retired from his position in 2010.

Jim’s walk of faith began early in life as he attended St. Catherine’s Zion Church in New Rochelle. Although, he never rejoined a local ministry he held onto the same strong faith that helped him weather the many storms he encountered in his life.

Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Lucretia, brother David and grandson Adam Jr. (AJ).

He leaves to cherish his memory two children, Adam (Kawshima) and daughter Nycolle (Joseph); five Grandchildren, Trenace, Jyrell, Jordan, Zakeyja, and Zamya; three Great-grandchildren, Cam, Emmanuel & Stephanie; one God-sister, Vernice Johnson and a host of other relatives, friends and neighbors.
