Jasmine Jones Obituary

It is with profound sadness and abiding love that we announce the passing of Jasmine Bianca Jones, beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, mentor, teacher, and friend, who departed this life on August 12, 2025.

Jasmine was a woman of extraordinary strength, deep faith, and creative brilliance. A quiet and shy child, she found her voice through dance - a language that would become the foundation of her life’s purpose. With the unwavering support of her loving parents, Jasmine began training in a neighborhood studio, where her talent blossomed and her confidence flourished. What began as a personal outlet evolved into a divine calling.

Jasmine dedicated her life to sharing the transformative power of movement, not only through her studio but also as a beloved Creative Movement Teacher at the Stephen Decatur Magnet School of Leadership, Exploration, and the Arts, where she had served since 2014. There, she touched the lives of countless students with her passion, creativity, and nurturing spirit, helping them express themselves through the art form that had once given her a voice.

Through the joys and trials of her journey - from dancer to teacher, mentor, and eventually founder - Jasmine remained centered in her faith and driven by her mission to uplift others. She faced every challenge, including personal strife, financial hardship, and the heartbreak of a COVID-related closure, with grace, courage, and unshakable belief that God would provide. And He did.

In October 2016, Jasmine opened Jazz It Up! Studio of Dance, a sanctuary for young dancers to discover their voices, tell their stories, and be celebrated for who they are. More than a studio, it was a haven - a sacred space where individuality was honored, and community was built. Even when the studio was forced to close in 2020, Jasmine’s spirit remained unshaken. She held on to her dream and, through faith and perseverance, reopened in 2023.

Jasmine’s life was a testimony: “Without the test, you have no testimony,” she often quoted. She lived her life guided by God, fueled by compassion, and inspired by the radiant joy of the children she taught. Her warmth, kindness, and relentless encouragement left a mark on all who met her.

She is survived by her loving son, Zion Wright, the light of her life and the heartbeat behind every decision she made; her parents, Arlene and Eden Jones, who instilled in her faith and strength; her sisters, aunt, cousin and brothers-in-law, LaTonya Jones, Cherise Jones Cesar, Allissa Brice, Judith George, Khalid Williams, Evens Cesar, and Charles Brice, who cheered her on through every chapter; her beloved niece and nephew, Amir Cesar and Ava Cesar; and a vast community of friends, students, and colleagues whose lives she transformed with her love and light.

In recognition of her extraordinary contributions to her community, Jasmine was awarded a New York State Senate citation, presented by Senator Roxanne J. Persaud in October 2024. The honor celebrated her unwavering commitment to empowering youth through the arts and her lasting impact on the lives she touched.

Jasmine's story does not end here. It lives on in the hearts of every dancer who ever leapt under her instruction, in the community she nurtured through faith and movement, and in the legacy of empowerment she leaves behind.
