Mary Alice Allen was born August 29, 1952 to the Late Carl and Bernice Allen, in Brooklyn, NY.
Mary was married to John Owens for the past 21 years. She was the mother of two step daughters Desiree (Nikki) and Tasja.
Mary Alice worked for AT&T for over 20 years until retirement. Mary was a very active and sociable person.
Mary Alice loved to sing and dance she even formed her own singing group and was quite successful. Mary would work with children in the neighborhood giving them encouragement in school work and career planning. Anyone who knew Mary knew of her generosity and caring towards others. Mary always had a smile and hug saying all is well.
Mary was blessed with a large close knit family. She was the Seventh child out of ten children. Family life of eight girls was like a daily sorority. Family life was sharing, challenging and focused. Mary held her own and did her part without complaints. She is missed greatly, her smile, her jokes and her laughter.
Mary attended the Institutional Church of God and Christ where her pastor was the Late Chief Apostle Carl E. Williams Sr. for over 30 years. Her gifts and talents was numerous and she shared them by faithfully working in the Sunday School, Children’s Ministry, the S.O.S. Outreach Ministry, recording church services and special events. Mary would ultimately form a great sisterly relationship with the late Pastor Marie A.P. Bohanan. Pastor Marie was her dear friend. She would often take Mary to her doctor’s appointment. She also got great joy in her godson Pastor Vincent Bohanan spending time with and teaching the saxophone; advising him on the importance of music mechanics and just those loving and tender moments.
Mary bravely struggled through her illness for the past five years never complaining. She kept up her Christian spirit and a smile on her face.
Mary was an active member of the church Upper Room Christian World Center located in Dix Hills where Bishop Anthony D’Onofrio is pastor. She ushered and participated in programs given by the church. Mary spoke very highly of her Pastor and his Wife Linda. Mary found a caring fellowship attending this church. She was very devoted to her church and followed her Christian faith.
Left to mourn her is her husband John Owens, her two step daughters Desiree and Tasj two step son in-laws Derrick and Dwayne and six step grandchildren, her seven sisters Brenda, Carolyn, Loretta, Joyce, Bernadean, Vanessa and Adriene, nine nieces, eight nephews, great nieces and nephews, brother in-laws Leonard Clay and John Powell, her god children Berneice Rosenzweig, Pastor Vincent Bohanan, Darius, Matthew and Saralyn Whidbee, Sandy Williams and a host of other relatives and friends.
The internment will be at Pine Lawn Memorial Park located at 2030 Wellwood Ave, Farmingdale NY 11735 immediately following the funeral.
There will be no repass due to the current State Policy for Covid-19
