Ruth G. Fisher Obituary

Ruth G. Fisher was born on May 23, 1942 in the County of Clarendon, Rimini, South Carolina.  Her mother, Sillian Ann Green raised her to be strong and independent.  Our beloved Mother departed this life on March 31, 2021 at 7:01 am at her home in Bayshore, New York, with her family at her bedside.

She was baptized at an early age in South Carolina.  Ruth relocated to New York after giving birth to two children.  After her relocation to New York, she had seven more children, for a total of nine children.  Upon her relocation to New York, she became an active member of Convent Avenue Baptist Church, located in Manhattan, New York.  When Ruth later moved to Queens, New York, she joined AME Methodist Episcopal Church.  As an ardent member, she served on the usher board, sang in the choir, led the weekly women’s group (The Faithful Few) and was responsible for preparing the monthly communion.

Ruth was educated in the South Carolina school system and played on the basketball team during her youth.  As an adult, Ruth immersed herself in forming a relationship with God and instilling these same qualities in her nine children.  She worked tirelessly, night and day, to ensure her children were never without.  She was a licensed Security Officer for John F. Kennedy Airport’s Landsdell Protective Agency and FJC Security Services, Inc., protecting the airport and ensuring safety and order.

She relocated to Bayshore, New York in March 2001 where she continued her love for children.  Ruth worked for Logan Transportation Inc. as a Matron on the School Bus.  All the children naturally gravitated towards her and loved her, as she was a mother to all.

Nevertheless, Ruth lived her life for God and her nine children.  She ensured all her nine children received a quality education, was active in extra-curricular activities and remained dedicated to going to Church and serving God.   Moreover, Ruth was well respected by her peers, relatives, co-workers, and everyone she encountered.  She was highly admired and loved by all.  Although she had nine children of her own, she was well known for helping anyone in need.  She often took care of the children of her friends and family when times became difficult for them.  No task was too large or too small for Ruth to tackle with love, grace, understanding and commitment.  Her love for her children, family and friends transcended into her daily life.

Ruth is predeceased by her husband Willie Fisher, Sr. and her brother Louis Green.  She leaves to cherish her memory; her brother, James Henry Green; her nine children, Theodore R. Green of Bloomfield, NJ; Willie Thomas Fisher of Atlanta, GA; Tracey D. Fisher-Tyler of Roanoake, VA; Anthony Shamel Fisher, Sr. of Wyandanch, NY; Belinda J. Stith of Newburg, Maryland; Sharon Fisher of Bayshore, NY; Pamela Fisher-McLeod of Bayshore, NY;  Felicia Fisher of Burlington, MA; and Marsha Burrell of South Hempstead, NY; Twenty-two grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, daughter-in law Beverly Green; son-in-law William M. Tyler; son-in-law Marlon McLeod; son-in-law Sirtwa Burrell, nieces Denise Green-Harrell; Tasha Green; Deidra Green; Christy Green; Shaneka Green; Lisa Murray; and a host of other nieces, cousins, relatives and friends.

Ruth touched the lives of so many people during the time God placed our beloved Mother on this earth.  Her legacy will live on through her great works throughout her life and through her nine children.

Her favorite bible verses:  Psalm 23 – The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want.  He maketh me to lie in green pasture….and Isaiah 41:10 – So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
