Shiree Torme' Pointer, Born May 7, 1962, in San Pedro, California, to Tommy James and Shirley Mae Shepherd, passed away peacefully at her home in Brooklyn, NY at 2:00 PM of Friday January 3, 2025, at the age of 61. A woman of Immense talent, humor, and dedication, Shiree left an unforgettable legacy as a mother, sister, friend, and Community Leader.
Shiree graduated from William Workman High School in 1981, where she excelled in math, basketball, and shot put. Her determination and competitive spirit shine brightly during these formative years, paving the way for her remarkable life.
In 1988 Shiree moved to New York and began her exceptional 37- year Career with AFS Intercultural Programs. Starting as a temporary employee, she worked her way up to program manager through hard work, determination, and her remarkable talents. Her dedication and excellence earned her numerous awards and recognition, including being part of the AFS team selected to ring the New York Stock Exchange Bell. She was eagerly anticipating retirement, ready for her next adventure.
Shiree had a magnetic personality, known for her sharp wit, infectious laughter, and good-natured sarcasm. She loved a spirited debate, and her confidence in being right was backed by her remarkable intelligence-most of the time, she was indeed correct.
As president of the 17 Social Club and founder of the 17 Family, Shiree built connections and brought people together with her leadership and warmth. She was also Passionate about preparing taxes, a skill she excelled at and shared generously.
Beyond her professional and social contributions, Shiree was the most passionate Las Vegas Raiders fan you would ever meet. Her unwavering loyalty to the team was legendary, and her enthusiasm was contagious to anyone who spent time with her during Football season.
Shiree is survived by her two children, LaShonda Gibson and Gregory Pointer Jr; 1 grandson Javonte Emoni Winston; Seven siblings: Judy Diane Shepherd, Barbara Ann Cummings, Angela Renee Ri'chard, Shirley Kay Collins, Monigue Nichele Richard, Tommy James Shepherd Jr., and Teri Janee Shepherd; 14 nieces and nephews; and 17 great-nieces and nephews. She is also lovingly remembered by her extended family, including her ex-husband Gregory Pointer Sr. and his siblings Perry Pointer, Karen Pointer, Francisca Crockett, and Yolanda Maisonet.
Shiree Torme Pointer's laughter, love, and passion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Whether it was her warm humor, her leadership, or her spirited cheers for her beloved Raiders, Shiree bought Joy and inspiration to everyone she met. Rest in Peace, Shiree- you will always be cherished and never forgotten.
A celebration of Shiree's incredible life will be held from 2:00PM to 5:00PM on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Sampson Funeral Service, 2601 Pitkin Ave, Brooklyn NY 11208. In lieu of the flowers the family requested you give a monetary donation to the charity of your Choice.
